In the morning I noticed that my computer was off. It may have been turned off by a family member, I'm not too sure. Upon typing in my password and logging in, the background appeared first as normal. Then the start menu. But before the icons loaded I received a message saying Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. The error signiature is: AppName: explorer. Virus scans have found no traces of viruses on my computer.
Upon choosing to end explorer. I assume this is a problem with the registry, perhaps the computer turned off at an innoportune moment? How can I fix this?

However when I log out from that session and swiftly log back into the same account without a reboot explorer.
Why would explorer so consistently fail to load during the first session after booting and succeed in the second and I assume third and forth and However if these symptoms sound familiar to any of you I would be most grateful for a diagnosis.
